High-tech waste washing plants to be introduced

High-tech plastic and polythene waste washing plants are to be introduced to Sri Lanka for the first time through the National Post Consumer Plastic Waste Management Project, said Central Environmental Authority (CEA) chairman Charitha Herath.

Initially, the washing plants would be installed at recycling centres in the Kalutara, Colombo and Gampaha districts. The supplier of the washing plants has been selected from a tender procedure with the approval of the Treasury.

The CEA chairman observed that larger volumes of waste plastics and polythene can be recycled when these washing plants are installed in recycling centres. He noted that these washing plants have a high efficiency and are made using modern technology.
