Trinity trounce Antonians

An unexpected collapse of St Anthony's College late order batsmen saw Trinity College cruise to a 15-run victory in their schools under 19 Lemonade Trophy limited over knock out cricket tournament match played at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy yesterday.

Chasing a victory target of 184, the Antonians after an indifferent start were well placed at 138 for 5 with plenty of overs remaining.

Later they were 162 for 6, 24 runs required with four wickets in hand but they lost their way at this stage to be dismissed for 168 with 12 balls remaining.

In fact the last three wickets fell at the score 168.

Trinity College batting first helped through a fine knock of 45 with four fours and one six off 48 balls by Rajitha Jayatunga totalled 183 in 49.3 overs.

Off spinner Sachin Bulathsinhala once again turned out to be the scourge of the Trinitians taking 4 for 19. The Antonians in reply were 75 for 5 at one stage before a fine stand of 63 for the sixth wicket between Kanishka Ranaraja 39 (2 fours, 53 balls) and Saranga Rajaguru 34 (6 fours, 28 balls) boosted up their chances. But the latter batsmen failed to consolidate and the Trinitians won by 15 runs.

It was sweet revenge for the Trinitians after their 10-run defeat by the Eagles in the limited over clash last Saturday.

Trinity College: 183 all out in 49.3 overs (Niroshan Dickwella 33, Janishka Premasinghe 23,Heshan Wanniarachchi 10, Rajitha Jayatunga 45, Amrith Srimahan 12 n.o, Romesh Mackwin 2 for 25, Buwaneka Wijetunga 2 for 35, Sachin Bulathsinhala 4 for 19.

St Anthony's College: 168 all out in 48 overs (Yohan Woods 19, Sachin Bulathsinhala 24, Kanishka Ranaraja 39, Saranga Rajaguru 34, Romesh Mackwin 16, Lakshan Jayasinghe 2 for 31, Akila Jayasundera 2 for 32, Alwin Fernando 2 for 36).
