Man succumbs to gun shot injuries

A man who was shot by an unidentified gunman at Weligoda, Grandpass succumbed to injuries at the Colombo National Hospital on Wednesday. The victim, M A Prasanna Kumara alias Ukku Patiya was admitted to hospital when he was shot at No 225 at Weligoda. Grand Pass police have commenced a search operation to arrest the suspect.

Boy knocked down

An 11 year boy died at the Thirukkovil hospital while being treated after he had been hit by a loader opposite the Thambavil Pradeshiya Sabha in Thirukkovil on Wednesday. The loader hit the victim, M Ilakshan of Thambawil and rammed into a parapet wall by the side of the road. Police arrested the driver of the loader and was to produce him in Pothuwil magistrate court yesterday. Thirukkovil police are investigating.

Murder suspects arrested

Five suspects alleged to have been involved in a murder of a person in Marawila on February 25 were arrested by Marawila police with the assistance of the Chilaw Crime Investigation Unit yesterday.

Police said that E Rukmal Shan alias Shantha was murdered a month ago in Marawila. Two special teams from Marawila and Chilaw police were deployed to arrest the suspects. Police recovered a pistol, seven bullets, two no16 bullets, two duplicated vehicle number plates and Rs 141,000 with the suspects. Marawila police are investigating.

Caught with weapons

A man with an automatic revolver and a locally made shot gun was arrested in Sooriyawewa by Walsapugala STF officers on Wednesday. Police first found an unlicensed revolver hidden in a motorbike when they stopped it. Interrogation from the suspect revealed information about the other weapon which he had hidden in his land. The suspect, a resident of Sirimalpura was to be produced in Hambantota magistrate court yesterday. Sooriyawewa police are investigating.
