Youngest female photojournalist to win accolades

Photojournalist Yamuni Rashmika Perera of Information Department has
received the AFIAP award from the International Federation of
Photographic Art.

Rashmika Perera is the first female photographer to obtain this award
in the 60-year photography history in Sri Lanka. The International
Federation of Photographic Art based in France is extended in 83
countries.
Rashmika, 36, is the youngest photographer to obtain this award.
Yamuni Rashmika who won the Best Woman Photojournalist in Sri Lanka in
2008 has won many awards locally and internationally. She is also a
member of the National Photography Association. She had worked at
Lakbima and Lanka newspapers as a journalist.
Yamuni is set to hold a solo photo exhibition titled ‘Free Mind
2012’. She held her first solo exhibition at the National Art Gallery in
Colombo in 2004. She also participated in the ‘world Press Photo’
workshop, which was held in Colombo in 2003.
Photographers Vilson Hagoda, W P Weerawardena, Dr M S Weerakoon,
Mervin de S Jayasinghe, Lal Hagoda, A D Darmasena, H M R Perera, G
Hettiarachchi, Dr Uditha Gayashan Gunasekara, Bandu Gunaratne, Henri
Rajakaruna, Priyantha Amarasinghe, Samantha Senaka Bandara and
Chandrasena Perera have also been awarded with the award.
Yamuni Rashmika completed her three-year Diploma course in
photography at the National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka (NPAS)
in 1994 and was awarded with Associateship (ANPAS) of NPAS. She is also
currently working as a lecture for NPAS. She is also a Bachelor of
Science degree holder from the Open University of Sri Lanka.
The exhibition is organized by the Lanka Prabha Lekika Sansadaya for
the forth consecutive year coinciding the International Women’s Day that
falls on March 8.
Yamuni Rashmika also was the Chairperson of the Lanka Prabha Lekika
Sansadaya and organized the Digasiya Netha Andi Ru photo exhibition for
several years.
