Turkey confirms Turkish helicopter crash in Kabul

TURKEY: Turkey’s foreign ministry confirmed on Friday that a Turkish helicopter crashed in the Afghan capital Kabul but without giving details on casualties.

“We confirm that a Turkish helicopter crashed in Kabul according to initial findings,” a ministry diplomat told AFP. According to Afghan officials, at least 10 people, including a woman and two children, were killed when a NATO Turkish helicopter crashed into a house and burst into flames on the outskirts of Kabul.

Turkey, NATO’s sole Muslim member, currently has 1,800 soldiers serving in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.

In October, Turkey extended by another year its Kabul regional command of the ISAF.Unlike other European members of ISAF, Turkey’s mission is limited to patrols and its troops do not take part in combat operations. AFP
