SLTB calls off strike

Strike action staged by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB)
employees, was called off yesterday evening, following discussions with
the authorities. Deputy Minister of Transport Rohana Dissanayake, stated
at a press conference that steps have been taken under the guidance of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, to increase the minimum salary of the SLTB
to Rs 11,730. He added that the relevant documents have been sent to the
authorities.
The Deputy Minister further stated that the Secretary to the Treasury
P B Jayasundara, has promised to take measures to pay the arrears of the
EPF and gratuity to the SLTB employees with the April salary.
He also stated that these measures had been taken following requests
made by the Sri Lanka Jathika Nidahas Pravahana Sevaka Sangamaya. The
Deputy Minister further requested all employees to resume work and
provide a quality service, from the time the strike was called off. |
