'NCC moulds meaningful citizens'

President Mahinda Rajapaksa ordered to establish the 20th National Cadet Battalion based in Jaffna to guide the present generation to become confident, well disciplined and skillful citizens, National Cadet Corps (NCC) Director Major General Gamini Jayasundara said.

Addressing the passing out ceremony of cadets of 20 and 4 battalions at the National Cadet Training Centre, Rantambe, Major General Jayasundara said that the National Cadet Corps (NCC) is engaged in making the President's intention a reality.

The youths who undergo cadet training become loyal, obedient, patriotic and valuable resource persons to society.

The government allocates funds for cadet training every year, Major General Jayasundara said. He said that cadets have to be an asset to the country. Everyone is duty bound to make their contribution to the development of the country. Students from Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts, after 30 years, underwent a one week special cadet training programme at the Rantambe Cadet Training Centre.
