He was addressing the launching ceremony of the Ministry’s new
tabloid newspaper Govijana Udanaya, which comes along with the Dinamina
newspaper. The ceremony was held yesterday at the Lake House Board room.
“He said the foremost objective of the launch Govijana Udanaya, is to
re-establish the traditional base of the country's ancient agrarian
system. “We have formed a good culture with the agricultural
environment.
Those agrarian methods could not be replaced by modern mechanisms.
Farmers believed in many ancient methods in which they found many
positive outcomes,” the minister said.
“Our efforts were to convey those methods to the present day farmers
and make them aware that machines alone could not do everything. But
human and cultural values work in uplifting agricultura. This tabloid
newspaper would be a cross section of a typical Sri Lankan agrarian
system,” the minister further stated.
The minister expressed his gratitude to ANCL Chairman Bandula
Padmakumara for his support in making this venture a success. He said
that the state newspapers such as the Dinamina, had helped them in terms
of publicity, so that the ministry's work would be taken to the people
of the country through such newspapers. Addressing the ceremony, ANCL
Chairman Bandula Padmakumara, stressed that the Agrarian Services and
Wildlife Ministry had done a lot to uplift the country’s agrarian
production. He said that the minister was the backbone behind such a
progress, as he too had come from a typical agricultural family. “Being
the country’s only state media institute, the ANCL was assisting the
ministries to convey their message to the people. We have provided space
to each and every ministry to publish their news. Apart from that, the
ministries were welcome to launch these types of tabloid newspapers
through which they could have more access to society,” he further said. |
