Soldiers' deaths : personal dispute

Three soldiers providing security at the Murugan Kovil in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna were found shot dead on Thursday night. The victims were attached to the Nunawil Army camp of the 07 battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

Media Centre for National Security Director General Lakshman Hulugalle said a personal dispute between them had led to the shooting.

Hulugalle in a media communique said the cause for the deaths of the three soldiers was not an act of terrorism and it was in no manner connected to a terrorist act.

He said that the incident will not pose a threat to national security.

Lance Corporal R M R Rathnayake, Privates N D Kapukotuwa and M M S C Fernando died following the incident.
