Nearly 18,000 kidney patients have been identified in the NCP during
the last 10 years. About 6,000 of them have died of the disease, said Dr
Susil Munasinghe of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
Most patients have been reported from Kebethigollewa, Padaviya and
Medawachchiya areas in the Anuradhapura district, he said. He was
addressing a press conference organized by the People's Movement for
Saving of Lives from Renal Diseases held at Anuradhapura recently.
Dr Munasinghe said according to scientists and researchers the most
likely cause for the high incidence of renal disease is the
contamination of drinking water. rgency. |
