Nearly 18,000 kidney patients in NCP

Nearly 18,000 kidney patients have been identified in the NCP during the last 10 years. About 6,000 of them have died of the disease, said Dr Susil Munasinghe of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

Most patients have been reported from Kebethigollewa, Padaviya and Medawachchiya areas in the Anuradhapura district, he said. He was addressing a press conference organized by the People's Movement for Saving of Lives from Renal Diseases held at Anuradhapura recently.

Dr Munasinghe said according to scientists and researchers the most likely cause for the high incidence of renal disease is the contamination of drinking water. rgency.
