Demining complete in Jayapuram north
The northern parts of Jayapuram, Kilinochchi district were cleared of
land mines and handed over to the people for re-settlement recently at a
function held in Jayapuram.
Ithavil Farm in Jayapuram area, KI-436Band KI-438 divisions which
extend to 83,277 kms were demined.
The lands were cleared by the Danish Demining Group (DDG).
Deputy Chairman of Committees M. Chandrakumar, MP participated as the
chief guest for the event.
Chandrakumar said 95 percent of re-settlement in Kilinochchi was
carried out due the clearing of landmines. At present, landmine clearing
is being carried out in the agriculture areas and agricultural
activities will soon go back to normal after demining, he said.
He added that the teams responsible for clearing of landmines in
Vanni are engaged in a historical service removing the hardships of the
people.
