Kandy MC protests human rights allegations

The main Opposition of the Kandy Municipal Council wore black ties as
a protest against the proposal to be introduced at the UN sessions of
the UNHRC, at the council meeting held with Deputy Mayor Sena
Dissanayake at the chair.
The Leader of the Opposition Neranjan Wijeratne said; "Irrespective
of political differences, we are all united to fight against any
movement that challenges the sovereignty and integrity of Mother Lanka."
"We love our motherland than those who pretend to claim so," he said.
Speaking on the Kandy development activities, Councillor Sarath
Wijesinghe said the work of the fire brigade needs to be updated. He
said the weakness and inefficiency of the Kandy Fire Brigade came to
light with the two recent fires that occurred in Kandy recently.
Councillor Raja Pushpakumara requested the Kandy library premises be
cleaned as it is impossible for students to occupy the area. He
expressed satisfaction on establishing the Police Commission on the
recommendations of the LLRC. He said under existing Provincial Council
powers they already possess land powers. "Some 3,500 Tamils have already
been trained and recruited. Thus, the people in the North have no
problem whatsoever though the TNA make unnecessary allegations," he
said.
Councillor Sanjeewa Hulangamuwa said the location of the pre-school
near the Bogambara grounds should be shifted to a safer place. |
