Maris Stella lads going on well this season

Maris Stella College Negombo, is going well this season with their
talented young players in the under-19 cricket arena. This season, they
have been able to do a fair job against Holy Cross Kalutara,
St.Servatius, Galle and St.Patrick, Jaffna.

The team is led by fifth year player and all rounder Anjelo
Jayasinghe who is in the Sri Lanka national under-19 squad. He is in a
top position in batting, having collected a total of 590 runs in 10
matches. His highest individual performance is 107 runs (not out)
against S.Thomas' College Mount Lavinia and he has knocked four half
centuries against St Servatius Galle (93), St.Peter's (68), Lumbini (70
not out) and Thurstan (70). In bowling he has proved his potential with
a total of 38 wickets including a best of four for 41 against St.
Peter's College.
Prasanna Jayamanna, who is another senior player has been able to add
a greater value to Maris Stella team with his superb all round
performances, having scored 663 runs in 14 matches, with a highest
individual score of 120 runs against Holy Cross Kalutara. He scored
another century against S.Thomas' College Mount Lavinia (107) with three
half centuries against St.Peter's (58), Thurstan (56) and Lumbini (78
n.o.). Not only in batting, but also he has supported his side with
bowling too. This season he bagged a total of 39 wickets including
match-bag of nine wickets against St.Patrick's College, Jaffna with four
for 32 in the first innings and five for 14 in the second innings. This
is his fourth year in the team.

Third year player and bowling all rounder Sathira Dileepa has clearly
made his intentions having claimed a total of 50 wickets in 14 matches
including a seven wicket haul against De Mazenod College Kandana (first
innings 2 for 36 and second innings 5 for 45) with two five wicket
hauls, one against St.Peter's College Colombo (five for 75) and the
other when they played Gurukula Kelaniya (six for 65). In batting, he
has scored a total of 400 runs with his highest individual score of 46
runs against St.Aloysius College Galle.
Shehan Dilasiri, fourth year player and wicketkeeper batsman is the
Vice Captain of the side. Having compiled a total of 400 runs in 14
matches, he gives a strong support to his team with his abilities. His
highest individual score is 48 runs against Zahira College, Colombo.
Other than that, He has claimed 44 victims for the season.
All rounder Shehan Chathuranga has a special place in the team who
has scored a total of 402 runs in batting including his highest
individual score of 80 runs against St.Joseph's College, Colombo. In
bowling, he captured 21 wickets for the season with a best performance
of four for 38 against St.Peter's.
The coach of the team is Harsha Gamadhikari and he believes that they
are in a better position in the current season as a team. "Currently we
have played 14 matches for the season. And we won three matches
outright. But I'm not satisfied with the individual performances of my
players. But as a team, we are in a better position in the under-19
school cricket arena and I'm happy about that," says Harsha.
The team gets the fullest support from Principal, Prefect-Of-Games,
Coach Harsha Gamadhikari and Master-In-Charge Lalantha Fernando. |
