Commission appointed to create closer amity between
the communities:

Despite lobbying by the US and several Western states against Sri
Lanka, the Asian group of the Non Aligned Movement yesterday expressed
unreserved support for Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights
Council session in Geneva.
The members of the Sri Lankan delegation to the UNHRC session in
Geneva yesterday met representatives of NAM’s Asian group and explained
measures taken by the government to implement the recommendations of the
Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission to promote reconciliation
among the communities.
They pointed out that the Commission was appointed by the President
to create closer amity between the communities in the aftermath of the
30 year conflict.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, the Asian group members of the
Non Alignment Movement said that Sri Lanka is emerging from the ashes of
a protracted conflict and the government of Sri Lanka is capable of
solving issues effectively.
The Russian representatives also expressed support for Sri Lanka at
the UNHRC session at a special conference in Geneva.
The conference was held under the patronage of Plantation Industries
Minister and President’s Special Envoy on Human Rights Mahinda
Samarasinghe in Geneva.
Minister Samarasinghe said that Sri Lanka is committed to
implementing the LLRC recommendations and that the government was ready
to rectify any shortcomings in the process of implementation.

telecasting false video footage on Sri Lanka.
The former Attorney General exposed the forces and the persons behind
the Channel 04 fiasco which is aimed at bringing disrepute to the
country. He denied that Channel 04 video footage is authentic.The
documentary produced by the government in reply to the false Channel 04
video footage titled "Lies Agreed Upon" was about to be screen before
