Police nab conman

A man who tried to sell fake gold nuggets (maranchi) for Rs 790,000 to a resident in Hunupitiya was nabbed by Kekirawa police. Kekirawa magistrate remanded the suspect until March 9 and ordered the police to carry further investigations.

The suspect had promised the buyer, a resident of Hunupitiya, Wattala, to exchange 750 grams of maranchi which he said he had obtained from a treasure. The man had agreed to purchase the items in Kekirawa.Police nabbed the suspect while exchanging the fake nuggets at Madatugama. Kekirawa OIC, CI Pushpakumara, IP W M A E Malalasekara and a team led the arrest.
