Sam Harrison, 19, of Salerno Drive, Huyton, appeared by video link at Liverpool Crown Court where he pleaded not guilty to murder, but admitted manslaughter.

He was remanded in custody until May 21 when he will face trial on the murder allegation.

Wickramasingha, a father-of-two, was originally from Sri Lanka and had come to the UK to support his family. He was described by friends as "a brilliant man, well-liked, very courteous and polite".

Police are also appealing for help in finding a missing mountain bike.

They believe it may have been used around the River Alt off White Lodge Avenue on the night of the killing. Courtesy BBC
