MoU with Canadian university

The Higher Education Ministry entered into an MoU recently with
Prince Edward Island University in Canada on cooperation and exchange of
ideas.

On behalf of the Higher Education Ministry, Higher Education Minister
S B Dissanayake and Professor Wimal Rankaduwa and Professor Florence
Fedak representing Prince Edward University signed this MoU at the
Higher Education Ministry. According to this MoU students of Prince
Edward Island university will be engaged in academic activities in Sri
Lanka in the fields of archaeology and performing arts. Similarly, local
students will be engaged in academic activities in several sectors in
Canada.
Minister Dissanayake said that measures are being taken aimed at
building a strong rapport with reputed overseas universities to obtain
the latest knowledge.
Moreover, many Sri Lankan university students will get opportunities
to learn at foreign universities free of charge.
Meanwhile, Bolton University of the United Kingdom opened an academic
centre in Sri Lanka recently under the patronage of Minister
Dissanayake.
Addressing the gathering the minister said the Private University Act
has been stagnating for some time due to misunderstanding and
mis-publicity.
The ministry has been engaged in discussing with certain parties who
were against the Act to make them understand.
