Music ablaze
Harshinie WIJESINGHE
The Lawrentian choir truly put the stage on fumes as they unraveled
their musical talents at the BMICH on February 17. The three choirs
Primary, Junior and the Senior Choir were unique in their performance
and undoubtedly each of these choirs truly created an indelible
impression deep in every person's mind.

The choir |
The honourable chief guest for this evening was Rt. Rev. Dr. Maxwell
Granville Silva the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo. The Guest of honour was
Rev. Fr. Ranjith Madurawela Archdiocesan Director of Education and
General Manger of Catholic Schools and Brigadier J P Ampe Mohotti,
Director of Ranaviru Sevena.
Second performance
The choir's first appearance in this vein was ‘La Musique Pastorale’
in 2007 and their second performance was ‘Voice Cantabile’ in 2009.
Since then the choir of St. Lawrence's Convent has reached great heights
and Music Ablaze is another off-shoot of it.
Discipline is not inborn but it is instilled. Every member of the
choir from the youngest in grade one to the Advance Level student
exhibited a high level of self-discipline. The blazing stage was
soothing to the ear. The untiring efforts of the choirs and their
trainers were exulted.
The young Lawrentians of grade 1 and 2 took their places on stage
without any hesitation and soothed the hearts of the listeners. The
Junior and the Senior Choirs made music come alive. It was an event to
bring forth the musical talents and the skills of our children.
Language of music knows no barriers. Music unites and brings people
together. These young choristers at their rendezvous with music sang
religious songs in Sinhala, English and in foreign tongues, also other
songs as Jazz, Pop and Waltz. The clarity of the singers and their
harmonising was beautifully synchronised.
Tranquil stature
This musical fiesta of choral singing actually lifted the minds of
the listeners to a truly relaxing and tranquil stature. It was a night
of thunder and it was a night filled with music. It was indeed a
memorable night for the budding little choristers. It is truly
remarkable that St. Lawrence always gives the necessary strength to the
talented youngsters to bring out their talents and sharpen and shape
them before they step into the larger society laying the foundation
stone to build their fortress as these youngsters excel in their career
one day.
The Choir Directors Francis D’ Ameida and Suleetha Nanayakkara along
with the teacher-in-charge of the choir Ms. Christa Perera trained and
guided the choir for this fabulous evening of music and pleasure.
As guest artists the Josephian Choir and Jacqueline Hettiarachchi a
past pupil performed to make this thundering musical evening more
colourful.
