The Police Department has a great responsibility to maintain peace
and harmony in society. It is a very onerous responsibility and the
Police have to follow a strategic plan to achieve success in their
duties, Inspector General of Police N.K.Illangakoon said.

“The Police had followed several plans from its inception to provide
a better service to the public. But in the past three decades it was
forced to change procedures due to terrorism. Under such a situation
they have missed their traditional duties. The war has ended and the
Police is looking forward to provide a satisfactory service to the
public,” he added.
The IGP was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the workshop on
the three year corporate plan for the Police Department held at the Sri
Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) yesterday.
This corporate plan had been formulated with the technical assistance
of SLIDA Director B.Wijewardena and all arrangements are in place to
activate this plan from the end of April. SLIDA Additional Director
W.A.Wijayasundara will be in charge of this plan.
“Maintain a secure social atmosphere and environment without fear by
identifying roles targeted to each police division by analyzing data to
deal with crimes, inspection, maintaining peace, road safety and
successful leading of evidence in court against criminals are the main
objectives of this corporate plan,” the IGP said.
“We know that we have to face a number of barriers and obstacles when
trying to activate a complicated plan. But we hope to activate this at
provincial level, district level, police divisional level and police
station level as well. According to this plan we hope to give certain
targets to our officers and we hope to conduct them towards their
targets till they achieve them,” the IGP said. |
