Dengue via some AC buses

A latest study conducted by the Health Ministry has revealed that dengue was spreading from Colombo to other parts of the country from mosquitoes found in some buses, especially air conditioned inter-city private buses.

“A large number of buses and vehicles travel from Colombo to other parts of the country. These vehicles are parked in the Colombo city at night. Once the vehicles come into the Colombo city, drivers and owners keep the doors and windows open from where the mosquitoes enter the vehicles.

When they leave Colombo, they keep the doors and windows closed,” a ministry spokesman said. “The dengue mosquitoes in these buses and vehicles travel to other parts of the country affecting the villagers,” he said. The spokesman advised bus crews to open the vehicles’ doors and windows for a few minutes while traveling.
