Nestomalt Marathon at Kuliyapitiya

The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka and Nestle Lanka PLC will conduct the Nestomalt marathon for 2012, with the support of the Sri Lanka Police and the Education Ministry, in Kuliyapitiya on March 03.

The Nestomalt marathon has brought many rural talented runners to the spotlight in its over two decades history. In line with the much loved brand's promise of Power, Strength and Energy all day long, Nestomalt has been a pioneer sponsor of country's marathon sport and also have empowered and encouraged promising athletes in this event. Athletes who brought honour to Sri Lanka in international long distance running such as K.A. Karunaratne, V.K.L. Samarasinghe, Bandula Samarasinghe, Sarath Gamage, Indrajith Cooray, Thamara Padmini and Sujeewa Nilmini are some of top marathon runners who excelled in Nestomalt marathon on previous occasions.

Nestle Lanka's iconic brand, Nestomalt is also the official sponsor for national marathons conducted by the Sports Ministry every year.

This year's marathon will be conducted in two segments. The first segment is an open event where participants from any part of the country will be eligible to take part.

The second segment will be restricted to school participants (girls and boys) above the age of 15 years whoattend schools in the Kuliyapitiya area and suburbs. All participants will need to report to the starting point by 06.00 a.m. to undergo a medical check-up before the marathon begins at 8.00 a.m. .

The first three winners of the open marathon will receive Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively in addition to a trophy, while those who finish from 4th to 10th positions will receive Rs. 1,000 each together with a medal and certificate. The winner from each category will also be awarded a thrilling helicopter ride as part of their grand prize.

The first three winners of the school segment will also receive Rs. 10,000, Rs.7,500 and Rs. 5,000 respectively along with a trophy, while those who finish in the 4th to 10th positions will receive Rs. 1,000 each with a medal and certificate. All first ten places for both segments will receive a valuable gift hamper from Nestomalt.

The Nestomalt marathon will be conducted according to the rules and regulations of the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka. Further details about the event can be obtained by calling 0772384282.
