Herbal plant cultivation drive

The Ayurveda Department and the Central Environment Authority (CEA) have launched a joint programme to cultivate herbal plants and trees in Weeriyagama herbal village, which is considered the biggest herbal village in the country.

Fourteen farmer families are engaged in the cultivation work.

The CEA has provided funds to obtain planting material.

Among the herbs and plants cultivated are aralu, bulu, nelli, rasakinda, iramusu and komarika, Sooriyawewa divisional secretary N K R Pathirana said.
