Govt to uplift children's lives



The ministers inaugurating the electricity project.

The government will uplift the level of children's education in remote villages by providing them with electricity, Technology and Research Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

She was addressing the inaugural ceremony at the Eheliyagoda Keenagahavila Ingiriya Kalukade Electricity project. The project costs Rs.80 million.

The project was mooted by Power and Energy Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara under the Iran Electricity Project.

National Languages and Social Integration Minister Vasudewa Nanayakkara also attended the inauguration.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is keen to empower the children with knowledge. All the facilities received by children living in urban areas will be provided to children in remote villages too, minister Wanniarachchi said.

"It is the way to enable rural community to face all challenges of the future. It is essential to provide electricity to remote villages to do that.

Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara said that the government has been able to provide electricity to villages under a leader who emerged from the village. Through this, we will be able to support children in their education, create self employment opportunities, and develop industries, he said.

"Our aim is to see that the village economy is strengthened. If you use electricity with care we will be able to provide electricity to another village" he added. Minister Vasudewa Nanayakkara said that peoples' vote is important and powerful. As people of this country voted correctly, today they can witness villages being developed under the UPFA government.

Member of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Kanchana Jayaratna, Deputy Chairman Eheliyagoda Pradeshiya Sabha Ruwan Liyanage were also present.
