Uththama Pooja medal awarding ceremony in Ampara
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa presents a medal to a
family member of a War Hero

The fallen war heroes of Army, Navy, Air Force and Police who
scarified their lives to save the motherland from the LTTE were
remembered by presenting the Uththama Pooja Pranama Medal to their
parents and wives.
The ceremony was held in Ampara on Friday under the patronage of
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
A total of 2,328 family members of fallen War Heroes in Ampara
district, received medals at the ceremony.
Among them 1,649 members were in the Army, 41 Navy, 19 Air Force and
619 were in the Police.
The welcome speech was delivered by Ranaviru Seva Authority president
Padma Wettawa. The gazette extra ordinary published by President Mahinda
Rajapaksa on July 16, 2010 was read out by Director General of Ranaviru
Seva Authority Ruberu Thanthirige which include the style and
designation, description, ribbon, eligibility, awarding of the medal,
forfeiture and restoration of the medal. Defence Ministry Additional
Secretary S Hettiarachchi, Defence Ministry Military Liaisons Officer
Major General (Rtd) Palitha Fernando, Security Forces Commander (East)
Major General Lal Perera, Eastern Naval Commander Rear Admiral J S K
Kolabage, Ampara District Secretary and Senior DIG DT Wijegunawardana
were also present.
