Vehicle use on the rise

The total number of vehicles in the country has greatly increased during the past few years, said Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa addressing the media at the Information Department recently.

He said mainly, the number of motorcars, motor tricycles and motorcycles has increased rapidly.

According to the statistics of the Motor Traffic Department, the number of vehicles in 2011 was 4,479,732. In 2003, it was 2,073,869. Motor cars in 2011 were 468,168 and they were 274,631 in 2003.
