Tourism Zones to be created in Mullaitivu

The Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority has commenced feasibility studies to develop Tourism Zones at the lagoons of Kokilai and Nayaru in the Mullaitivu District, Irrigation and Water Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

The Authority has drawn up plans to attract local and foreign tourists for these areas, he said. These areas belong to the Mahaweli Authority L zone. Under the project, around 500 hectares will be developed, he said.

Around three decades, these areas were ruled bythe LTTE. The government has commenced many development programmes in these areas.

Road development projects are being implemented in the Mullaitivu town. Programmes are also implemented to provide drinking water and electricity in these areas, he said.
