Indian market as well and the response is very good,? he said.
Dissanayake who has over 30 years experience in the industry said
that today due to the global economic crunch the Food and beverage
market is somewhat affected. However, he said that despite negative

He said that one of the plus points of the hotel is that they offer
value for money and due to this their occupancy has been over 90% in the
season. Even the service charge was very high with an average of over Rs.
20, 000. He also said that over 38 percent of their guests are repeaters
with some of them visiting the hotel more than 35 times. ÿ
Dissanayake said that Negombo is now gaining in popularity as a
destination among local and foreign travelers. "This is the reason the
management decided to upgrade the hotel and move in to a three star plus
property. The hotel is also 35 years old and it needed a change,? he
said.
Negombo area has seen a lot of development which is also helping the
industry.
Goldi Sands Hotel, Chairman Eric Suriyasena said that they saw the
demand coming and this was the reason for them to invest and they are
happy on the returns. "Financially we are enjoying the best times of the
hotel with 15% revenue increase," he said.
Suriyasena added that they can claim four star status with a few
additions but prefer to remain three star plus since they do not want to
increase rates.
