Commercial Bank CSR Trust donates IT lab for Hambantota School
The CSR Trust of Commercial Bank has set up a fully-equipped computer
laboratory at the Ranminitenna Primary School in Tissamaharamaya,
Hambantota, continuing its nation-wide community initiative to improve
IT education.
The Ranminitenna Primary School with 126 students becomes the 32nd
school to receive a computer laboratory from the CSR Trust of Commercial
Bank.
The Bank contributes up to one per cent of its post-tax profits each
year, to the Trust.
During the last three months of 2011, the Commercial Bank set up 13
computer laboratories, many of them in rural schools, which benefited up
to 7,000 students.

SAPPTA conducts workshop for cinnamon planters

The Spices and Allied Products Producers’ and Traders’ Association (SAPPTA)
affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce conducted a one day
workshop for the smallholders and planters of the Regional Plantation
Companies (RPCs) of Cinnamon, in Ampegama.
This was the third workshop organized by SAPPTA in collaboration with
the Department of Export Agriculture, the Export Development Board and
the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI). The main focus of this
workshop was to educate the smallholders and the planters of the RPCs on
nursery management and new planting techniques, GAP and maintenance,
fertilization methods and types of fertilizer, value addition and
business entrepreneurship.
The Chairman of the Association Viren Ruberu, stated that SAPPTA
intends organizing similar workshops in Matara and other regions of the
country as this would assist the Spice Industry to strategically drive
towards achieving greater quality of produce whilst enhancing the
countries spice production and offering new entrepreneurs the
opportunity to secure new avenues. The Spices and Allied Products
Producers’ and Traders’ Association is dedicated to aggressively work
towards achieving this objective.
Piaggio expands to Tissamaharama

With the continuing spiral in demand for Piaggio three-wheelers,
Associated Motorways (Pvt) Limited (AMW) recently added a new showroom
at Thissamaharama to its islandwide network of fully-fledged, modern
showrooms.
The latest Piaggio showroom is situated at Thissamaharama. It was
ceremonially opened by Sales (Piaggio), AMW Manager Amitha Gamage.
Manager Harsha Rodrigo Network Development and Marketing, Assistant Area
Manager Kasun Fernando and a large number of special invitees, customers
and well-wishers attended the opening ceremony.
Speaking about the opening of the Tissamaharama new showroom, General
Manager Suneth Sudasinghe (Piaggio and Eicher) AMW said that there is a
big demand for Piaggio diesel three-wheelers from all parts of Sri
Lanka. He said that AMW is taking steps to open new showrooms in all key
towns, for the convenience of customers who could purchase Piaggio
three-wheelers within the areas they reside in.
As part of this expansion drive, AMW has already opened Piaggio
showrooms in the key towns of Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Avissawella, Kandy,
Anuradhapura, Badulla, Ampara, Nuwara Eliya, Matara, Negombo, Batticaloa,
Dambulla and Gampaha. Customers could inspect and purchase Piaggio
three-wheelers either on a cash basis or on leasing facility.
“We are not only expanding our existing network of showrooms but also
adding more value and strengthening the network of authorized Piaggio
service and spares agents who provide the vital after-sales service and
accessories to our customers,” Suneth Sudasinghe said. At present, there
is an islandwide network of more than 200 authorized after-sales service
agents and 150 authorized spareparts agents. Some of the salient
features of Piaggio three-wheelers are fuel efficiency.
They could run 38 kilometres per litre, capable of carrying a load of
650 kg, low maintenance cost, comprehensive after-sales service and the
availability of ample spares. For commercial purposes, Piaggio
three-wheelers could be provided according to the specifications and
requirements of the business venture concerned.
People's Bank unveils ‘Jaya Sri 2012’ draw
The People's Bank ‘Jaya Sri 2012’ draw was unveiled on February 1
with a view of presenting everyone an opportunity to grab the prizes
they always wanted.

To mark the opening of this programme, a special ceremony was held on
February 1 at the Headquarters under the patronage of the CEO/General
Manager of People's Bank, N. Vasantha Kumar. While addressing the
gathering, Vasantha Kumar highlighted the need to raise the savings
level of the country to facilitate the economic development on the march
towards becoming the wonder of Asia. The Deputy General Manageress
(Retail Banking), Renuka Jayasinghe presented the overview of the ‘Jaya
Sri 2012’ campaign at this ceremony.
Any person having a Rupee Savings or Current account at People's Bank
(except Minor accounts) will be eligible for the Jaya Sri 2012 Draw. The
Draw will be conducted under two categories. Namely, the ‘Jaya Sri 2012
Monthly Draw’ and the ‘Jaya Sri 2012 Annual Grand Draw'.
At the Monthly Draw, over 1,060 prizes will be awarded with a minimum
of three per branch. You can choose either a ‘Micro Panda’ Car or a
‘Tafe’ Tractor as the first prize every month. As the second prize and
with a view of gifting two prizes to each Region in the country, 48 nos.
of 24’ LED TVs and as consolation prizes, 1,020 nos. of Mixer Grinders
will be gifted.
At the ‘Annual Grand Draw’ three lucky winners will be gifted with a
brand new Honda Civic motor car.
Each vehicle is valued at Rs. 6.5 million and is yet to be introduced
to the local market. Special mention should be made of the fact that
these vehicles are entering the Sri Lanka motor vehicle market with the
launch of ‘Jaya Sri 2012'.
To be eligible for the ‘Jaya Sri 2012’ monthly draw, you have to
maintain a minimum balance of Rs. 10,000 or multiples of Rs. 10,000 from
the first day to the last day of any month. For every additional Rs.
10,000 maintained you receive one winning chance each at the draw. For
example, if you have maintained Rs. 50,000, you will receive five
winning chances. |
