On President's directive:
Road leading to Abaya tank to be renovated
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday directed Irrigation and Water
Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva to take early
measures to renovate the road leading to the villages adjoining the
Abaya tank by keeping with accepted standards . This road lies across
the bund of the Abaya tank.
The President made this directive after having a conversation with
the people in these villages while he was walking along this road as
part of his daily physical exercise, yesterday morning. The villages
told the President that the roads leading to the villages were in a
dilapidated state.
They also told the President that school children are greatly
inconvenienced and constantly fall sick due to heavy dust. On an earlier
occasion, when First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa was passing the road, the
villagers told her about this problem and the road was immediately
renovated.
The villagers said that the person who undertook the road renovation
contract at that time, had failed to meet the necessary standards and
the road became dilapidated in less than a month.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa after taking their grievances into
account, directed Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva to take early steps
for the renovation of the road by keeping with accepted standards. |
