Thilina wears Yellow Jersey

Thilina Silva of Army who possessed the best overall timing of 7hours
18 minutes and 35 seconds at the completion of the second stage of the
Deyata Kirula Cycle Race which rode from Ruwanweela to Matale yesterday,
will wear the Yellow Jersey in the Final stage today. The first and
second stages had an aggregate of 328kms.
Mohomad Zali of SL police is in the overall second position, clocking
two seconds ahead Thilina (7h:18m:37s). Army's Sammera Chathuranga who
won the third place in the first stage secured the same place after day
two clocking an overall timing of 7h:19m:23s.
The second stage covered a 155km distance, passing Karawanaella,
Yatiyantota, Kithulgala, Ginigath Hena, Navalapiyiya, Gampola,
Peradeniya, Katugastota and completed in front of Matale Police Station.
Army cyclists performed well on the second day to bag the top two
places in the Stage II yesterday. Wasantha Harischandra, of Army who
took 3h:15m:18s to reach the finishing point became winner of the second
stage while his fellow cyclist Thilina Silva (Army) and Mohomad Zali
(Police) became second and third respectively, clocking same timing
(3h:15m:18).
The third and final stage of the race will work off today from Matale
to Anuradhapura covering nearly 120 kms via Dambulla and will complete
at the Salgadu ground, Anuradhapura. |
