Susantha takes National Snooker Title

Susantha Boteju once again proved his dominance in cue sport by
winning the 59th National Snooker Championship which concluded at the
Sugathadasa Stadium Hotel recently.

Boteju beat M. Munsi of Embassy Pool Parlour, Kandy in the final, 7-3
frames to bag the title for the 15th time and walked away with the U.W.
Sumathipala Memorial Trophy. H.S.M. Aslam of Moors Sports Club and M.J.
Anjelo Cronge of Otters SC won the third and fourth places respectively.
Boteju, who was the reigning National Champion qualified for the
final by defeating H.S.M. Aslam 6-4 frames in the first semi final while
Munsi beat M.J. Anjelo Cronge 6-4 frames in the other semi final to book
his berth in the final.
The final stage of the championship lined up 32 National level
cueists, including eight new entries who qualified after the all-island
tournament. Altogether 29 players, who cleared the district level stage
took part in the all-island competition representing Colombo (17), Kandy
(8) and Galle (4) Districts.
The championship was conducted by the Billiards and Snooker
Association of Sri Lanka (BSASL) and was sponsored by the Sumathi Group
of Companies for the 12th consecutive year. According to the BSASL the
number of participants in the district level was impressive this year.
