Govt allocates Rs 750 m for Beruwala development

Arrangements are in place to develop 21 sports grounds, stadiums and
auditoriums in the Beruwala electorate. All these places will be
provided modern technology and facilities.
The government has allocated Rs 750 million for these development
programmes, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr
Rajitha Senaratne said.
Two sports grounds from the 21 will be provided modern facilities
with the aim of developing them to international standards. These
grounds and stadiums will benefit residents in Beruwala, he added.
The minister was addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony for
an auditorium for Maradana playground, Beruwala recently.
Around Rs 3 million has been spent to construct this auditorium. "We
hope to develop Beruwala city as a tourist destination. All measures
have been taken to build a seven star hotel and an exhibition centre in
Beruwala. These will help to attract tourists to Beruwala and earn
foreign exchange," the minister said.
A large number of development projects in Beruwala city have already
been completed, he said.
The government has allocated a large amount of money to complete
development programmes within the next few years. Arrangements have been
made to complete all infrastructure facilities in this electorate by
2013, the minister said.
All large scale development projects proposed to be launched in
Beruwala city will begin before the end of next year, Minister Senaratne
said.
