Southern Expressway nets over Rs.151 m

Sri Lanka's newly opened Southern Expressway netted over Rs.151
million as toll charges from over 530,997 vehicles within its first two
months of operation.
There is a massive rise in the number of vehicles plying the Southern
Expressway, Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawala told
the Daily News .
Additionally, on average, 8,000 vehicles used the Expressway daily.
The deputy minister said the highest number of vehicles - around
181,212 had entered the Expressway through the Kottawa interchange to
travel to their destinations within first two months of its opening.
In addition, 27,862 vehicles from the Kahathuduwa interchange, 63,448
vehicles from the Gelanigama interchange, 40,126 vehicles from the
Dodangoda interchange, 26,979 vehicles from the Welipenna interchange,
39,601 vehicles from the Kurudugahahethakma interchange, 18,927 vehicles
from the Baddegama interchange and 132,842 vehicles from the Pinnaduwa
interchange had entered the Expressway during last two months.
The Road Development Authority collected the highest income of Rs. 57
million from vehicles at the Kottawa interchange.
