New appointment

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed Arun Thambimuttu to the post of Batticaloa District Co-ordinator to the President with immediate effect. The President made this appointment under Article 41(1) of the Constitution.

Arun Thambimuttu is the son of late Batticaloa district MP Sam Thambimuttu who was assassinated by the LTTE.


Meditation

A meditation and Dharma deshana programme organized by the Dharmashoka Foundation will be held at Buddhist Centre, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7, every last Sunday of the month from 3 to 5 pm. Polpitimukalane Pragnasiri Thera will deliver the Dhamma deshana. All are welcome. The first programme will be held on January 29 at 3 pm.


Pedura today

A musical extravaganza titled 'Pedura' organized by the Old Anandians Centenary Group will be held at the Shalika Hall, Narahenpita today, January 28 at 7.30 pm.


Village road to be developed

The Pasbage Korale Pradesiya Sabha has allocated Rs four million to repair three village roads. Accordingly, Warakawa Gamameda Para, Pallegama, Udarambukpitiya and Wagawa-Kendopitiya roads will be developed.


Costly arrack

A man who pleaded guilty of selling arrack without a permit was imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 by Walapane Magistrate Chandanie Meegoda. He is a resident of Gonapitiya Estate, Kandapola. Ragala Police prosecuted


Blood donation

A blood donation campaign organized by the Idandukitha Parami Arts Circle to mark Independence Day will be held on February 4.


Yoga workshop

Sethsada Yoga Nikethanaya will hold a yoga workshop free on February 2 at YMBA, Jayanthipura, Battaramulla from 9.00 am-12.30 pm to make the public aware on how to control and prevent diabetes.

The workshop will be conducted by Yoga and Hypno Therapist Chamin Warnakula and specialist Doctor R.M.N. Ramanayake. For details - 0722-855488, 0777-265240.


Dog sterilization campaign

The Overseas School of Colombo will hold a yearly sterilization and vaccination campaign for dogs and cats in the area at the Jayawardanagama Community Hall, Battaramulla tomorrow from 8 am to 2 pm.


Helping hand for dairy farmers

The Central Provincial Agriculture, Animal Production and Animal Health Ministry has embarked on a programme to help dairy farmers of the province.

The provincial ministry provided financial assistance for farmers at Ginigathena, in the Nuwara Eliya district.


Help save her life

W.A.K.G. Rosadi Lehansa Wanniarachchi (3) of 23, Anderson Army Quarters, Colombo 5, has been diagnosed with Leukaemia and is receiving treatment at the National Cancer Institute in Maharagama.

She has been recommended an urgent bone marrow transplant surgery in India which is estimated to cost rupees ten million.

Her father who is a disabled military officer, says that he is not in a position to foot this bill and seeks public assistance.

He requests philanthropists and the public to assist his daughter's cause by sending whatever donations possible to help expedite the surgery.

Contributions should be remitted to A/c No. 027020437597 of Hatton National Bank, Nugegoda branch.


He needs kidney transplant

Kapila Saman Kumara, 39, Temple Road Labugama, Haltota, is suffering from acute renal failure and has been recommended urgent kidney transplant by Consultant Nephrologist of Colombo National Hospital Dr. R.D. Lanerolle. Kapila seeks an O Positive kidney from a willing donor who could contact his family on 0714443170, 034-4906983, 0778179158.

His wife says that she is unable to bear the cost of the treatments provided to her husband and requests the public to assist her husband's cause by sending whatever financial contributions possible to A/c No. 052020171605 of the Hatton National Bank, Horana branch.


Wife of Dr Hudson Silva passes away

The wife of founder of the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society Deshabandu late Dr Hudson Silva, Hony President of Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, Lion Mrs Padma Irangani Silva, has passed away. Her body will be placed at the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society Headquarters, Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 7, from January 27 to January 30, for final respect.

The funeral will be held at the Borella Cemetery on January 30, 2012 at 5 pm.
