Tanks being rehabilitated

The Mahaweli Authority has taken steps to dredge and rehabilitate selected rural tanks in the Mahaweli 'H' Zone threatened with destruction due to silting and growth of salvinia and other aquatic plants.

Under this project undertaken concurrent to the Deyata Kirula Exhibition, several tanks including the Ottappuwa Pansala Wewa, Pahalawtiyawa, Kerabewa Wewa, Dunudandu Wewa, Siyambalagaha Wewa, Panankaniya, Hirigollegama and Pahala Halmillewa tanks have already been rehabilitated, said Resident Project Engineer Mahaweli 'H' Zone, Asanga Gunatilleke. Rs 25 million was spent on the project undertaken with the assistance of farmer organizations.
