Seminar on advanced facilities in shipping industry

Extension of the NAVIS' system, an awareness seminar organized by Sri Lanka Shippers Council will be held on January 26, 2012 at 2.45 pm at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Auditorium, Colombo 02.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Chairman Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama will address the gathering whilst his team along with Bank of Ceylon will present SLPA's new developments for the benefit of the Industry. The new system is designed to connect Imports, Exports and other operations to SLPA online with a number of facilities including payment facilities through BOC by way of improving transaction speed, reducing paperwork and enhancing efficiency of operational cost and time.

Areas being looked into are online facilities for service request, invoicing and payments, warehouse and yard cargo management with minimum involvement of documentary work, online facilities for Gate functions and seamless connectivity with Terminal Operating Computer System for data interchange. The seminar is designed for exporters, importers, freight forwarders, carriers, traders, logistics providers and all other port users.

Sri Lanka Shippers Council with 46 years in the trade representing more than 70% of the import and export trade in the country with a vision of enhancing the competitiveness in business logistics, performance and cost is always willing to help and share its expertise for the benefit of the membership and for the trade. The council's desire is to contribute to the National Development by promoting Sri Lanka Government's e-Sri Lanka initiative.

With this vision, the council is planning to conduct a series of seminars this year to create higher awareness among the stakeholders in the industry with the latest developments in the trade.

Council suggests, trade to obtain maximum benefits of these opportunities.
