Ja-Ela woman in racket to find Mullaitivu’s missing

A woman who posed as a Police criminal investigation officer and demanded money from the public on the pretext of finding missing persons in Mullaitivu, was taken into custody by Colombo Crime Division (CCD)officers Tuesday.

The woman, a resident of Makewita, Mabima in Ja-Ela had made telephone contact with Grama Niladari officers in Mullaitivu to find guardians of missing persons.

She had then compelled them to deposit money in her bank accounts in exchange for finding those missing persons.

The CCD after extensive investigations arrested the woman in Ja-Ela.

They also found the mobile phone she used, four SIM cards, deposit receipts for several accounts and pawning receipts. Further investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile another woman was arrested at Badowita in Mount Lavinia with 13 grams of heroin by Headquarters STF personnel on Monday. She was handed to the police Anti-narcotics bureau for further investigations.
