Voters names to be on website
Chief Government Whip and Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena, yesterday stated that the government was taking measures to
enter the list of names of the voters into the Election Department
website.
The minister made this observation in response to a question raised
by UNP MP Sajith Premadasa in Parliament.
Minister Gunawardena further stated that to enter the voters’ list
into the website, the election law needed to be amended, adding that the
process to amend the election law for that purpose was in progress. He
also stated that the funds needed to enter the list into the website
would be allocated without delay.
He added that even by now, the list of the names of the voters could
be taken to CDs at district level.
Minister Dinesh Gunawardena further stated that plans were afoot to
maintain an open list of voters in the website which would be easy to
remove the names of those who had died and add names of those who had
reached the proper age to cast their votes.
