All set for Independence Day celebrations

All measures are in place to host the 64th Independence Day celebrations in Anuradhapura after 31 years.

The celebration will be held on grand scale at Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Mawatha, Anuradhapura in line with Deyata Kirula exhibition, said Anuradhapura District Secretary Mahinda Seneviratne.

The District Secretariat has taken measures to provide all facilities to the President, Prime Minister, ministers, ambassadors and other VIPs who will participate in the ceremony. Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Mawatha was carpeted and school grounds will be used for car parks.

The secretariat has also taken measures to provide viewing facilities to the public. About 1,000 students from Northern, Eastern and North Central Provinces will participate on the occasion.

Under the guidance of Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W D J Seneviratne, security forces and officers of government institutions have organized the function.
