Plans to increase free Korean language centres

A visiting Korean Buddhist delegation paid a courtesy call on acting External Affairs Minister Neomal Perera on January 11.

The delegation, headed by Korean Buddhist Yeo-Rae Order executive chief Ven Ilseob Shin, was in Sri Lanka to participate in several religious ceremonies in and around Colombo, including the opening ceremony of the Korean language centres in Panadura, Mount Lavinia and Alpitiya.

Perera and the delegation discussed matters of mutual interest and the opportunities to further enhance the cooperation extended by Korean organisations and philanthropists. The acting minister thanked the delegation for the free Korean language centres funded by the organisation.

"There is a hindrance to use job quotas given to Sri Lanka by the Korean government due to the lack of Korean language learning opportunities in Sri Lanka for job seekers, though the demand to gain employment in Korea is high," said the acting minister. The delegation expressed interest to provide funds to construct buildings for religious institutions and also to increase the number of free Korean language centres in Sri Lanka.
