'Leak in information to be investigated'

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, yesterday said that an investigation would be held in connection with the leak of information of matters discussed at the Consultative Committee of the Finance and Planning Ministry, to the media.

The Speaker said in Parliament, that to leak out information concerning matters of the Consultative Committees to the media and publish them was a breach of the Standing Orders.

He made these observations when Chief Government Whip and Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, brought to the notice of the House that an English language newspaper had published an incorrect news item concerning the matters discussed at the Consultative Committee of the Finance and Planning Ministry. He added that this incorrect information has been given to the media by an Opposition member.

The Chief Government Whip further stated that the Governor of the Central Bank.

Ajith Nivard Cabraal, had given a clear answer to a questions raised at the Consultative Committee, but a totally incorrect news item had been published in a newspaper.

The Speaker stated that if such a news item had been published, an investigation would be held in that regard.
