Speaker rejects adjournment motion by UNP MP
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa: yesterday in Parliament rejected an
adjournaent motion extended by UNP MP Sajith Premadasa.
The Speaker stated that MP Premadasa could not be allowed to move the
adjournment motion according to the Standing Orders number 31 (11).
He observed that the issue raised in the adjournment motion by
Premadasa MP was broadly discussed and fully answered on Tuesday in
Parliament.
The Speaker noted that Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe raised
a question under Standing Orders on Tuesday on the same issue and
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Higher Education Minister
S.B. Dissanayake replied to those queries.
The Speaker stated that according to the Standing Orders, another
opportunity could not be given at the adjournment to raise the same
matter which was sufficiently answered at a previous time.
The Speaker asked Premadasa, MP to request a full day debate through
the Chief Opposition Whip on this issue, if the member is not satisfied
by the response given on Tuesday, stating that such a request would be
considered.
