No tuition classes on Sundays, Poya days

Chief Ministers of all Provincial Councils have reached a consensus to ban tuition classes from being held on Sundays and Poya days. This will be in effect in the Sabaragamuwa Province as well, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council (SPC) Chief Minister Maheepala Herath said.

He said so participating in the progress review meeting of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council. The meeting was summoned by the Sabaragamuwa Province Governor W.J.M. Lokubandara. This decision was reached at the recent Chief Ministers' Summit. The Sabaragamuwa Province imposed this ban on par with the 2600th Sambuddatva Jayanthi celebrations. The governor said the SPC has decided to continue all programmes to celebrate the Sambuddatva Jayanthi.

The banning of tuition classes on Poyadays and Sundays has resulted in the increase of dhamma schools and the number of students in the Province, he said. "This is a good move taken by all chief ministers to allow children to attend temples and acquire dhamma education," he pointed out.
