Krishna to hand over newly constructed coastal railway line

Visiting Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna will
officially hand over the newly constructed second phase of the high
speed coastal railway line from Galle to Hikkaduwa to the Railway
Department today.
The official handing over ceremony will be held in Galle railway
station today with the participation of his Sri Lankan counterpart
Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Transport Minister Kumara Welgama.
The coastal railway line project carried out under a Line of Credit
extended by India.
The reconstructed Galle-Matara segment was opened in February 2011
for high-speed passenger train transport while the second phase of
construction of the 19-kilometer segment between Galle and Hikkaduwa
commenced at the same time.
The reconstruction work between Hikkaduwa to Kalutara is being
implemented.
The whole project is expected to be completed by end of February.
