Trinity College junior national weightlifting champs

Trinity College Kandy made an excellent display weightlifting. Trinity lifters consistently applied right technique and always came out with best lifts. Eventually, their fine performance led them to be crowned both in under 17 and 19 Junior National Champions 2011.

Trinity College Kandy rising juniors Lochana Girihagama, Shachika Liyanarachchi and Kaneel Senevirathna set new junior national records at National School Weightlifting Championships 2011 held at the Kelaniya University Gymnasium.

Lochana Girihagama, 69 kg category in under-17, finished a snatch of 80 kg and 105 kg in clean and jerk with a total lift of 185 kg. Lochana's clean and jerk lift of 105 kg is a new junior national record.

Shachika Liyanarachchi, 62 kg weight category in the under-19 age group, was placed first with a snatch of 100 kg and clean and jerk of 132 kg. His clean and jerk of 132 kg is a junior national record. Shachika was also selected as the best lifter in the age group of Under 19.

Kaneel Senevirathna, in the 77 kg class (under-19), was also placed first with a snatch of 98kgs and clean and jerk lift of 130 kg to finish with a total of 228 kg. He established a new junior national Under 19 record with a clean and jerk of 130 kg.

Under 17: 50 kg- Shenal Abayawarana 2nd Place with a total of 115 kg, 62 kg - Umesh Samarasekara 2nd Place with a total of 145 kg, Sajith Thalgahagoda 3rd place with a total of 140 kg, 77 kg - Nanique Azhar placed 1st lifting a total of 160kg, Isuru Rangala was placed 2nd lifting a total of 142kgs. 85 kg - Suren Karunathilaka placed 3rd lifting a total of 140 kg. 94 kg - Praveen Abayasundara placed third lifting a total of 123 kg. 94+ - Bodihitha Delvita was placed 1st with a total of 160 kg. Anuradha Karunathilaka placed second with a total of 155 kg. A. Ackiel placed 3rd with a total of 130 kg.

Under 19: 69 kg - Yasodh Jayasooriya become 2nd with a snatch of 75 kg and a clean and jerk of 102 kg. 85 kg - Kevin Bandara (captain) was placed 2nd lifting a snatch of 85 kg and a clean and jerk of 110 kg. 85 kg - Thisila Karunathilaka was placed 2nd snatch 90 kg a clean and jerk 117 kg.
