Royalists hit back

St.Joseph's College were 122 for 6 in 29 overs in reply to RoyalCollege's first innings total of 189 all out at the end of the firstday of their inter-schools under-19 cricket encounter played at ReidAvenue yesterday.

Right hand batsman Isuru Gunathilake helped Royal College with 36 runs after Royal won the toss and chose to bat. Right hand batsman Chamika Karunaratne also supported with 33. Left arm leg spinner Supeshala Jayatilleke captured four wickets for 37 runs while Priyamal Perera bagged three wickets for 45 runs.

Right hander Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 34 runs for Joes, wellsupported by left hander Vidusha Jayasinghe (22). Left arm leg spinner Devin Pathmanathan bagged three wickets for 39 for Royal while Poorna Aluthge captured two wickets for 23.

The match will resume today at 9.30 a.m.
