Media Guide 10th edition launched
The 10th edition of Dharman's Media Guide of Sri Lanka was issued
last week. A publication of the Sri Lanka Environmental Journalists
Forum it is one of the most popular and leading media guides in Sri
Lanka edited by senior journalist Dharman Wickremaratne. First published
in 2000 it is the country's only media guide updated annually.
This 280-page media guide is the best source for the public to get
accurate information on national and international media organizations
and media persons. The guide includes names, designations, postal and
e-mail addresses, web links, land and mobile phone numbers and fax
numbers of organizations and individuals
This information given includes that of media organizations, national
dailies, weeklies, monthlies and other periodicals, columnists, radio
and television stations, art galleries, drama theatres, cultural
centers, development agencies, diplomatic missions, UN office,
international news agencies, government ministries and other state
organizations, district secretariats, media training institutes,
provincial bodies and NGOs and political parties etc.
The latest edition gives 8437 links to different organizations
including 612 media institutions and media personnel.
Doowaru portrays challenges faced by women

Renowned teledrama director Nalan Mendis who had made some of the
most popular teledramas of the era such as 'Doo Daruwo', 'Nedeyo', 'Senehewanthayo',
'Sathpura Wesiyo' and 'Sooriya Daruwo' completed work on his latest
production 'Doowaru'.
The story rotates around a widow and her daughters. It portrays the
demise of a wealthy family's breadwinner and the challenges the widow
faces while encouraging and providing her daughters the education and
career they aspire to achieve. Faced with trouble from relatives and the
challenges of an empowering career Natalie sacrifices her lover to
support her family. She brings Asanki, Sanju and Sneha into their lives.
The teledrama will be telecast on Swarnavahini, Monday to Friday from
January 23 at 8.30 pm. It comprises around 100 episodes.
The cast is made up of some of the most prominent figures in the
industry. They include Malini Fonseka, Yashodha Wimaladharma, Iranganie
Serasinghe, Malini Weeramuni, Roshan P8ilapitiya, Chandika Nanayakkara,
Wathsala Diyalagoda and others. 'Doowaru' is scripted by Indika
Ferdinando. The music is directed by Rohana Weerasinghe.
Bakamoona Veedi Basi once again at theatres
Rajitha Dissanayake's stage play 'Bakamoona Veedi Basi' (Owl On the
Street) will go on boards the Lionel Wendt on January 21 at 3.30 pm and
6.45 pm.
Eye-catching talents
Nipuni WIMALAPALA
Depicting the music talents of students of Holy Cross College,
Kalutara, a musical show was held recently at the school. The musical
show was organized by the Prefects' Union of the school.
The musical show was based on a music competition in which students
from grade six to 13 took part. All the boys performed really well and
six of them were selected to the final round. They were really good in
music and their talents were eye-catching.
Rev Father Benedict Joseph was the chief guest while the veteran
musician Navaratne Gamage also graced the event. Rev Father Rector
Camillus Fernando, the principal of the school, has motivated students
to reach their maximum capabilities.
The special personalities who participated in the event were Menaka
Rajapaksha, Nehara Peiris, Athma Liyanage and Christopher Paul. They
added an extra colour to the evening.
Ridee Reyak dazzles again
In its ninth successful year, 'Ridee Reyak' features popular movie
and teledrama stars re-enacting popular cinema songs and clips from
famous movies.
This year's show is tipped to be the biggest and grandest event to be
held at the newly-unveiled world-class Lotus Pond Mahinda Rajapaksa
Theatre on January 14 at 7 pm. Sri Lanka Telecom and SLT Mobitel are the
sponsors of 'Ridee Reyak'.
This year's two-and-a-half-hour 'Ridee Reyak' extravaganza will
feature popular stars such as Malini Fonseka, Ravindra Randeniya, Jeewan
Kumaratunga, Robin Fernando, Rex Kodippili, Cleetus Mendis, Sriyani
Amarasena, Veena Jayakody, Sabitha Perera, Sangeetha Weeraratne, Dilhani
Ekanayake Ranjan Ramanayake, Mahendra Perera, Veena Jayakody, Kanchana
Mendis, Suraj Mapa, Kusum Renu, Chathurika Peiris, Anarkali Akarsha,
Sachini Ayendra, Manjula Kumari, Anusha Damayanthi, Nilanthi Dias,
Upeksha Swarnamali, Paboda Sandeepani, Channa Perera, Roshan Pilapitiya,
Pubudu Chathuranga, Saranga Disasekara and Roshan Ranawana among others.
In addition to the stellar cast, the show is choreographed by Channa
Wijewardene who has been the chorographer from the inception of Ridee
Reyak and scripted by the famous songwriter, Nilar N. Cassim.
'Ridee Reyak' has gained immense popularity and achieved cult status
as a show where the best of Sri Lanka's talent comes together on a
common platform to present a veritable feast for the senses, for the
audience.
The show was conceptualized as a means to raise funds for the Cine
Star Foundation, comprising of 310 members, and towards the well-being
and medical insurance scheme of its members. The evening will be marked
by a special presentation of financial reward for two deserving
artistes. |
