UPFA constituents to be briefed on Private University Bill

The Higher Education Ministry will conduct an awareness discussion with the constituent parties of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) to educate them on the Private University Bill, which will be introduced shortly by the Higher Education Ministry.

The discussion will be held with the participation of Higher Education Ministry and Education Ministry officials on January 15.

Several political parties of the UPFA, including the Jathika Hela Urumaya and National Freedom Front had pointed out that there should be a discussion on the Private University Bill prior to its presentation to Parliament. The discussion will be held under the patronage of Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake and ministry officials to educate these parties.

The NFF recently levelled allegations against Higher Education and Education Ministries on the Advanced Level results fiasco.

Minister Dissanayake said that private universities have to be streamlined adding that these universities cannot be monitored due to his Ministry not having powers vested by the Act.
