Re: Who is destroying the theatre

I read with much interest ‘Viewpoint: who is destroying the Theatre’
on October 19, 2011.
Why does not someone, for a welcome change, takes a cursory glance at
the hilarious comedies written and produced by T B Illangaratne in the
early 40s: ‘Mokada Mudalali’, ‘Nikan Ava’ and ‘Radala Pilliruwa’.
The audience was kept in stocks of laughter from beginning to end.
These shows were performed many times in Kandy and outstations and were
well received.
Most of the cast must have gone to their eternal resting place, but
one remembers the part played by the late J E Rogers who was a teacher
at St. Anthony's College.
However he played the part of the Mudalali in all these players and
was a comedian par excellence. Though these plays were written years
ago, I am sure they will even fit in today’s society. However, why don’t
some enterprising produces give it a try! |
