‘Alavi Moulana, dedicated servant of working class’

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said Alavi Moulana has been rendering
yeoman service for the betterment of working people. President Rajapaksa
was addressing Jana Prasadini, a felicitation ceremony to mark the 80th
birthday of Western Province Governor and senior vice president of the
Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Alavi Moulana at Temple Trees yesterday.
Alavi Moulana was conferred the Jana Prasadini title, at this
felicitation ceremony held under the patronage of President Mahinda
Rajapkasa. ”Alavi Moulana is a trade unionist and has been an urban
councillor, MP and deputy minister. Whatever position he held, he never
forgot the working class community and always fought for their rights.
‘Despite his status he is always in the forefront when it comes to
staging protests to safeguard the rights of the working class. Seeing
Alavi Moulana participating in trade union activities at Liptons Circus
or in front of the Fort railway station is a common sight to all of us,”
President Rajapaksa said.
‘He has a unique ability to build cordial rapport with people. When a
dispute is reported at a workplace, the name of Moulana automatically
comes to mind since he has a marvellous ability to overcome such tense
situations.
‘He has an extraordinary ability to lead and organize people towards
a set goal, President added.
“SLFPers will always remember the services rendered by Moulana with
utmost gratitude and respect. The SLFP is proud of Alavi Moulana and for
his long service to the party. He dedicates his time to obtain the
maximum benefit for the working class. Therefore, SLFP members will
never forget the great services and pivotal role played by Moulana,”
President Rajapaksa noted.
The President said that Alavi Moulana has always come forward to
serve the nation, fulfilling the aspirations of the working class.
The President also said that Moulana had been a tower of strength to
him and the SLFP for a long time and wished him a long life in his
service to the nation and the working community. |
